This is the "Mona Lisa" a very famous painting made by Leonardo da Vinci. It is believed to be of a 24 year old merchant's wife named Mona Lisa del Gioconda. D a Vinci began this painting in 1503 and completed it in 1507. It was painted onto poplar wood. Although it was made for a merchant, da Vinci never sold his creation. In August of 1911, the "Mona Lisa" was stolen but thankfully recovered.
