The "Pieta" is a sculpture created by Michelangelo. It was Michelangelo's first of a number of similarly themed works. The statue was made for the French cardinal Jean de Billheres' funeral monument. However, it was moved to the first chapel in the 18th century. This famous sculpture depicts the body of Jesus on his mother Mary's lap after the Crucifixion.
